Glendalough...

Glendalough, with its famous round tower is one of the most impressive images of Ireland.

Glendalough is a truly beautiful location which is rich in history and a site for many present day movies, for example Mel Gibson's 'Braveheart'.

Glendalough dates back to the 6th century and it was attacked many times by the Vikings. The famous St.Kevin lived there as a hermit and the students will be able to see the little cell that he lived in.

Later, Glendalough became famous as a centre of learning throughout Europe. This is how this saying was formed: Ireland - 'The Island of Saints and Scholars'.

One will feel as if they are in mythical, mystical Ireland and the students will be able to measure their true love on an old tomb stone...

Our trip to Glendalough will also take us to Avoca Handweavers where we get a guided tour of the old factory. There is also the chance for some souvenir shopping or one can take a break and have a coffee in the authentic, tradtitional cafe before we head home to Kilkenny.
