Irish Coast in Tramore and Waterford...
Our first stop on this trip will be the famous 'Dunbrody Famine Ship'' in New Ross near Waterford. Here, we will get a unique insight into a period of history which shaped modern day Ireland and America.
During times of starvation, many Irish people left their home country on this ship. They were forced to emigrate on sailing ships like the 'Dunbrody' to America in the 19th century. We will follow in the footsteps of a group of emigrants as we board the ship. A ticket is issued as if it were the year 1849, and this ticket allocates your space and food rations for the voyage ahead...
After this very impreesive experience we will continue our trip to Tramore - an Irish sea-side resort. Tramore is one of the most popular coastal destinations in the Southeast and Ireland. We are going to relax, swim and play sports on a wonderful 3 mile beach with 30 metre high sand dunes. Ideal for any outdoor activity and lots of fun!
Part of the seafront in Tramore is taken up by a 50 acre amusement park. It contains a series of rollercoasters, a miniature railway and a boating lake. We are also going to see the figure of the Iron Man, a huge painted iron figure of a sailor, who has his arm pointed out to sea to warn approaching ships.
After some fun-filled time on the beach and in the amusements we are going to visit the city centre of Waterford for some further sightseeing and shopping. We will then leave the Irish coast and drive back to Kilkenny.
